Wait a minute... was Beardthar evil? No, wait, he detected two evils near Beardthar. Was -- were Beardthar two evil people?

No, wait, that didn't make any sense. If Beardthar were two evil people, they couldn't accept al-Akbar as their deity. If there was one thing for certain, it was that Beardthar were good people.

"Guys! It is seriously evil in here. It is seriously SO evil. Like, see that?" Holy Saint Akbar al-Akbar points at a smudge on the ground. "That is an evil smudge. Somehow. Also, I think there are ghosts or something, and I'm not sure how many people Beardthar are anymore."

Beardthar glances between Saint Akbar and the desk and the black ring on the floor near the person-shaped smudge on the floor. He feels increasingly confident in his decision to not have tried on the rings.

Beardthar gives the Bookshelf another closer look. History of what? Genealogy of Who? Which Religions? Which Deities?

Analyzing the books, you find that most of them are concerned with the genealogy of wizards and sorcerers. One name keeps popping up among the titles, "ul Berec." The books on religion and deities though, are mostly about very old gods and religions. Based on the titles, you're guessing religions based on war and death. The history books are similar, they seem to all be about wars in the past.

Tim-Tim steps away from the door he's just closed and then gets a few people between him and the door.
He waits there expecting to be fighting zombies very soon, though what the others are doing has begun to intrigue him.

Spittle gets ready for combat too, hoping the zombies won't be clumsy enough to trip themselves.

You brace yourselves for an attack, expecting the zombies to break through the door at any minute.

You wait for it...

...

...

and the attack doesn't come.

You chance a quick peak out the door, and see that the zombies, eight of them, have walked straight past the door and continue on down the hall. They must have just been patrolling, and hadn't heard you.

Knowledge (Dungeoneering) (1d20 + Ranks + INT)
  • Akbar: 2 + 0 + -1 = 1 Fail
    Beardthar: 17 + 0 + 1 = 18 Success
    Peanut: 14 + 2 + 2 = 18 Success
    Spittle: 9 + 0 + 1 = 10 Fail
    Tim-Tim: 19 + 0 + 1 = 20 Success
Also, considering how brainless zombies are, they might not have been issued an order to search for intruders. Zombies are so simpleminded, that even if they see an intruder, they won't have the initiative to respond unless previously ordered to.

Tim-Tim wrote:Weren't we here to find a paladin or something? I don't exactly remember but was there a way we were suppose to recognize the person we were looking for? For all we know he could be one of those zombies, or this black spot on the floor. Should we ask the rod?

Beardthar gets the rod, holds it up, and says
Ileran? Seneschal Ileran? Can you hear me?
He jiggles the rod.

Nothing happens. You take a look outside, and see that it's hardly noon yet. There are still perhaps a couple more hours before the noon-day sun will allow you to use the rod.

Noticing that the party doesn't seem too eager to leave the room, Tim-Tim decides to cast Detect Magic, to see what, if anything is magical.

Beardthar cautiously creeps up the hallway in the direction the zombies came from. He intends to see if there are any doorways or side passages he can peer down and get an idea of the layout of the place.

He takes care not to venture out of line-of-sight of Saint Akbar.

EDIT: Spittle apparently had the same idea Beardthar did and decides to follow suit.
I wonder how much of this place we can explore by just timing out the patrols..
