Peanut blinks at the display of pain, before it all seems okay and responds while taking the letter, "It was kind of stuck with something sticky... I don't know if I can put it back the way it was." He attempts to anyway, placing the stickly side on the under surface.

The parchment sticks back to the underside of the table. Loosely, but it does stay put.

Tim-Tim

The innkeeper grunts and says:
Innkeeper wrote:Yeah, there are a few shops nearby, mostly general provisioners. You won't find any weapons or armor dealers in this part of town though. On the other hand, I do have weapons lying around that you might be interested in. Most are from agents who rented rooms, left their gear, and died in the field. So I doubt they have any use for their gear any longer.

Tim-Tim tried to hide his excitement at the idea of random magic items at normal item value.
I'd like to see those items "good" sir.
Tim-Tim puts on his most charismatic buyer's face as he waits in hopes for awesome gear.

Spittle breakfasts quietly, having slept poorly without the rocking of a ship. After hearing the contents of the note, he decides to take a closer look at their newly gifted equipment. Does anything smell unusual or seem tampered with? Do the healer's kits actually contain bandages? Does the spyglass leave a black ring around your eye?

Search (1d20 + Ranks + INT)
Spittle: 12 + 4 + 1 = 17

You find little of note. All the equipment seems to be in order, with no hidden surprises or nasty tricks set in place.

Tim-Tim
The innkeeper brings out a small selection of trinkets. Most of them don't seem magical, but two of the items, a small plain-looking dagger and a sapphire ring, do have magical auras about them.

The other stuff:
  • An ornate short sword
    A used sling-staff
    A cold-iron rapier
    A small darkwood shortbow
    An alchemical silver longsword
    An empty crystal flask
A quiver of masterwork cold-iron arrows
    A small mithral chain-shirt
Innkeeper wrote:There's more stuff, but truth be told, and no offense meant, these are the things that look to be more in your price range.

"Hey, where did that little guy go?" Again, saying that ironically, "Didn't he say something about shopping? Is he off trusting people we were told not to trust? He could be in danger!"

Tim-Tim

The inkeeper eyes you closely for a few moments, then says:
Innkeeper wrote:You've got a good eye for goods then, young gnome. Don't think I don't know this dagger is more than it seems. I'll part with it for, say, 800 gold pieces. And that's at a discount, because I know you're new on the job. The ring, on the other hand, you don't need to be a wizard to know it's magical. 2,000 gold, and I won't go any lower.

Hmm.. 2,000 eh? Well without proper research on the item it would be too much of a gamble for my tastes. I do need a dagger though, so I'll being buying that.
Tim-Tim takes out the 1000 gp gem he's kept hidden, and places it on the bar.
Do you have change?

Beardthar stops for a moment from his task of feeding fruit to his badger.
Beardthar, musingly wrote:Shopping eh?
Beardthar explores the hidden pockets in his tunic, and is astonished to discover that he has what appears to be close to 1000 gp stashed in there.
Beardthar wrote:I'm going to go downstairs myself. I won't wander too far.

Spittle shrugs and follows, not entirely sure he wants to be alone with Al Akbar.
Might as well join 'em. You coming too?

As you descend the stairs, you look around. There aren't too many people around, just two men off in the corner playing cards.

The innkeeper looks up at the sound of everyone else coming down the stairs. He nods in acknowledgement and goes back to dealing with Tim-Tim.

He picks up the gem and examines it carefully. Satisfied, he reaches under the counter and pulls out a small bag. Reaching in, he pulls out some coins (200gp) and hands them over to Tim-Tim along with the dagger.

Peanut shifts his eyes towards the couple in the corner playing cards in a very paranoid manner. They shift back to the innkeeper, which then he finally notices that a deal is being made.

The two in the corner seem to be an ordinary enough looking pair. One is dressed like a ranger, with forest-colored leathers and a longbow at his side. The other seems a bit foppish, with brightly colored blues, yellows, and greens all over him in a garish display of color. The lute propped up against his chair says that he's probably a bard of some sort.

Spot (1d20 + Ranks + WIS)
  • Akbar: 11 + 0 + 1 + 1 = 13 Fail
    Beardthar: 14 + 5 + 3 = 22 Success
    Peanut: 18 + 5 + 1 = 24 Success
    Spittle: 10 + 5 + 0 = 15 Fail
    Tim-Tim: 4 + 0 + 3 = 7 Fail
You notice sticking out of one of the backpacks the two have by their table, is the haft of a rod that looks very similar to yours.
