I think it was fun and I think your story and set-up were fine. My personal experience is that I was just never on the right page. I assumed from the set-up that we'd be doing a lot more urban exploring of dealing with the various gangs and their plots and schemes, maybe some blackmail and extortion...

All that said, in answer to your question of: Basically, I'm wondering if it's possible to turn on/off the mouse with a menu button, use it to click/activate an NPC, and not effect the Hero's original position? The answer is yes, that should all be possible. But you're going to have to use scripting.

It really doesn't matter what kind of a story you want to tell, it can be good no matter how many times it's been done. The important question is what kind of game do you want to have with your story. If the focus of your game is Redemption vs. Destruction, you should try to reflect that in the game...
