I'm surprised at how much they actually cost, I would've figured something in the neighborhood of 3 bucks too. You are insanely persistent to have gotten that far, and I can safely tell you you're not missing anything to give up now. Makes me glad I made 300 textboxes, though!

One of the flaws that I despise are overly easy/hard games. In some games, like Pokemon for instance, you don't even NEED to train at all. Just spam every enemy with your best attack and heal every once and a while. And in other games, like FFIII, no matter how long you grind on the hardest availab...

Not to be an slimehole (Well, actually, obviously to be an slimehole, but let's muddy the water a bit), if you need help with the art, need help with the title, and need help with the release forms, what part are you doing?

Devian Tart is a gay porn-star and he successfully sued "that website for Sonic and Furry slime" for defamation/copyright infringement. He's a super talented guy, I think it was a good move for him.

Narshe's a neat example. I think not having the ability to wander around would've made that segment feel really claustrophobic, especially with the follow-up of being chased into the mines and fighting off the army with the Moogles and whatnot. That little glimmer of choice made a world's difference...

This immediately made me think of inane, false-choice YES/NO prompts in Dragon Quest. I wouldn't say it's a design issue I really hate since it has no drawbacks to answering wrong, it just makes me think "what is the point??" every time I see it. Even more disconcerting is the number of t...

This might be more of an OHR Game thing, and it might be overly specific, but it drives me absolutely insane. One of the things I hate the most in RPGs is when you're controlling the main character, and you go to leave the house, or put your books in your locker or whatever, and he's like "No.....

I think randomization is over used, especially in terms of maps. While randomized maps may support replayability, it also strips a lot of incentive to explore. For example, imagine you are in random Minecraft map with a tremendously huge mountain. There is little incentive to climb to the very top ...

Re: Name a common RPG design flaw you despise, and why.

Correct Path Bad, Dead-End Path Good. While I agree that this kind of design is bad today, in the Wizardry era it made more sense. At that time, half of the fun was the immersion of mapping out the dungeon, dying a million times and finding the most efficient way through. But like Columbus looking ...

Spoony and Fnrrrf have given some good advice, but be careful. Making one section playable at a time is a very healthy approach. It gives you a lot of flexibility to let the game go where it wants to go. You can see the results of your work immediately, so you don't get discouraged as you might desi...
