Hey everyone, quick update on Submission Dates The official due date for submissions was originally this Saturday , the 17th. That was to give everyone Sunday to discuss and give feedback before the weekend is over. However, Foxley pointed out that there's a 3-day weekend, and having an extra day on...

@marionline: I can definitely help you with editing/writing. You can send me even a bulleted list of what you want to happen/be said, and I can turn that into actual text boxes, etc. I can also help you with music and sound. Just let me know how many songs and where they go in the game, and I'll eit...

Hey everyone! One week left for making some tiny games! Just wanna check in and see if I can help anyone out. I haven't had a lot of time to start working on anything of my own, but what I can do is try to get resources to anyone who needs them. If you're struggling to get assets or scripts working ...

The only actual constraint for the purposes of this contest is that in the OHR, your game must take place on one map with the dimensions 50x50. "One Room" is really a convenience wrapper for what this contest is about. It's not literal. Each tile could be a galaxy across.

LET THE CONTEST BEGIN The 2018 One-Room Contest has officially begun. I'll be back with more details on what exactly that means. Basically, anyone who wants to participate is free to make and submit a game from now until Saturday, February 17 . You don't have to use the entirety of those 2-3 weeks ...

@Foxley Good ideas. To clarify, for the twitch stream, nobody would have to worry about actually streaming. I'd have a stream running and you could just join in on the live chat. The idea is for anyone who'd like having something to listen to/watch while they work. For discord chat, nobody is requir...

Hey everyone! Official start date is tomorrow. Don't mean to stress anybody out with that, but to anyone on the fence about participating: Go for it! We're gonna make stuff! It's gonna be exciting and fulfilling! If you're concerned about it taking time from your other projects, think about this as ...

@Marionline: Reuse anything you want. I don't mind what assets or scripts that you use, as long as the game you make isn't plagiarism. Give credit where necessary, like always. @VapourSword: Using doors to navigate z-levels generally goes against the theme of this contest as it's been established. I...

If anyone's looking for inspiration, Foxley mentioned the game Ikachan, which all takes place on one map (from what I understand). https://i0.wp.com/operationrainfall.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/IKACHAN-006.png It really seems to maximize what one can do in one finite space. I'm not suggesting an...

I'd apply the same rule there: if you can justify it to me (in the specific context of your game) I'll allow it, but as a rule of thumb, no.

I think that's fine. The only real constraint I'm trying to push here is map size. Beyond that, you pretty much have complete creative freedom. The doors rule is just to emphasize that these games should be finite.

I encourage everyone to start talking about ideas here, even if you don't plan on participating. Discussion is always good, and if you didn't gather from the OP, the competition is not very high here. I will find some inspiration, examples, etc. and post it here to get that going. That being said, i...

OHR 2018 One-Room Contest

Hello everyone, and welcome to the OHR ONE ROOM CONTEST 2018 I know, you're excited. So am I. Now what is this slime exactly? Let me tell you. Objective: Make a small-scale game that takes place beginning-to-end in a continuous finite space Rules of Submission: Game must be played from beginning to ...

@robcurrie: Anything described as "inspired by BotW" sounds like such a terrifyingly huge project, but it sounds like you have a grip on what you doing. I believe in your ability. Especially seeing how already developed your world map is, there's obviously great potential that's been focus...

Well, as long as we're posting here, I'll do my part in hyping up my thing. There isn't a lot to show off right now, partly because I haven't had a lot of time to work on it, but also because I haven't been focusing on art, which makes it hard to show what's happening. My base idea I'm working with ...
