I managed to truck through and get something finished. I planned on having multiple days, but one was plenty work to do! I hope it's not too confusing and arcane. Puzzles are hard to make without user-testing.

Mom's Home

My submission to the 2019 One-Room Contest.

It's short and not thoroughly tested. I think I prevented all game breaking bugs, but since it's mostly tag juggling, some textboxes may get repeated in weird ways, etc.

I am throwing myself at the mercy of the court. Begging, pleading. If you could give me to the 26th, I am confident I could finish.
Charbile gets an extension to the 26th. Voting won't happen until then. Everyone else should get their game turned in by Sunday.

I still don't get it, but it was more clearly exploratory than Asphodelus, so it was at least consistent with itself. The game achieves what it aims to, and looks and sounds good while doing it. I have to give it credit for that.

Haven't finished it yet, but I've played enough to know this is a solid game with a lot of roughness around the edges. It's entertaining, with tons of funny and engaging dialogue and great music choices.

I had next to no idea what was going on. Maybe I need to be familiar with Yume Nikki to understand, but it wasn't even clear what things did something and what was decoration.

The idea of having one-room is to try and constrain games down to a very manageable scope. The use of doors (and therefore multiple "rooms") is discouraged, but not disallowed.

Bale - Chapter 1: 10/10 I can't think of anything I would change about this game. Astounding from start to finish. Dark Planet: 7/10 So much attention to detail made the moment to moment gameplay very engaging, but there's an unfortunate lack of content. Drydocks: 6/10 It's a little all over the pl...

It sounds like enough people could use an extension (myself included) so I'm gonna go ahead and go forward with it. I was thinking this was going right up against the RDC in March, but I realize now it's not quite that far into February. Everyone who's participating or who might now consider partici...

Submitting should be about winning!! That's why I invented the Big Kid Club Champion Award. It's meant to sound so juvenile that it's almost embarrassing to win. Also, I'm gonna submit a thing to my own contest; I don't intend to win. That would be silly!

I'm sure there's an upper bound to the resolution you can set, but you can set the dimensions yourself. TMC and I were playing around with running game.exe at 40x40, 16x zoom the other night. It's certainly ridiculous, but you have essentially complete freedom with it!

If an extension would get a new participant, I'd sure be willing to have one! How does everyone else feel about their projects? Want some more time, or would you rather be done with the contest this weekend? A week extension could work. It wouldn't conflict with the upcoming Ridiculous Games contest...

@BMR, that's awesome! I figured out how to get Unity to render pixel art correctly and had a lot of success too. If you ever want to put your work into that engine, I can send you the resources that led me to this product: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Bvl8sKqJSI.
