BMR's Wiki Log: May 09, 2013 2325h My work today was a bit limited because I had to tend to some real-life jobs that pay monies. What I have done though is to lay the groundwork for the Getting Started chapter in the HowTos. The outline and some basic text are in place, and tomorrow I plan on filli...

BMR's Wiki Log: May 08, 2013 2248h Today, I cleaned up the Free Sprites page. As it was hosting more than just sprites, I renamed it to the Community Graphics Resources page. Rather than having everything on one page (which got real messy, real fast) I have moved all the graphics to separate pages....

BMR pledges to fix up a page a day. He shall post what he has done on this thread each day. If he doesn't, someone slap him. And I should really stop talking in the the third person, even though my sig says I'm allowed to. But yeah, I'll get back to work on the wiki, and I'll fix up a page a day. Or...

BMR was indeed, but then he ran into some real-life stuff and never got back to it. Though he thinks that he should probably get off his slime and get back to work on it. The only page he regularly maintains now is the free graphics page, and even that's a complete mess right now that needs some work.

Wait, that actually works? I didn't think it would. You missed me saying so earlier in the thread. I did? Oh, oops, hehe. Just gave it a shot earlier, works like a charm. Map making will be so much simpler now that I can gust generate maps and then save the results before fine-tuning everything.

There is a tool for importing and exporting data from/to spreadsheets, though it is crude: tabulate.py . I'm 90% sure that it still works with Beelzebufo, though the Windows .zip is out of date. Also it won't be supported long term. Yup, that's the tool I'm using to import/export data as spreadshee...

I don't know, the formula seems to work fine for me when calculating stats. Would it help if I sent a copy of the spreadsheet that I use for calculating enemies and hero stats?

I actually already do that with an actual spreadsheet program. I doubt it would be useful in the OHR, as with the amount of information available, the screen would rather rapidly become a wall of unreadable text. An external tool would be neat, but I'm happy with my spreadsheet for now.

Ah, Tsugumo, where would I be without you. His was perhaps the first tutorial on pixel-art that I ever read. That was way, way, way back in high school. And now here I am, still learning, hopefully better than I was, but still looking to learn. As for the 20x20 tiles, I rather like them. Sure, they'...

Ultima did it well I believe. Where you'd get poisoned and slowly lose your health, but that was only in places where you would logically get poisoned. But that was Ultima-style play, the only JRPG style game I can think of off the top of my head that had harm tiles was Tales of Phantasia. And that ...

I don't know about fixing up harm tiles to be customizable. Zones can already do pretty much what you want to happen. And the scripting isn't all that difficult either. For me, zones made the harm tile obsolete, but then again, I can see your point how it would be easier for a newcomer with no knowl...

I typically use all eight for all my maps, and all of those tilemaps are pretty much filled up with tiles. But that's just me, and I'm weird like that, heh.
