Many kinds of games have the issue that if they're so hard that no-one can beat it, you can't verify that it actually is beatable. So I found this inspirational: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V06nEHw70b4 Note that the level generator is very simple , and has been programmed only to ensure that the...

I love challenges like this as a great way to force some original game design. I'm designing a game; trying to plan out logically a way to maximise difficulty and minimise frustration and boredom. If the design seems promising enough, I'll try to create a playable contest version of it.

Figurines would be very neat. Although I'm not in the running to receive one, I know I would prefer a T-shirt over a coffee mug, provided it had a nice clean design and didn't feel like a billboard. Since my opinion doesn't count maybe you should instead hold a straw poll of contestants to vote on t...

Maybe even better would be to use a hybrid, the variant that the SS gamelist uses: give each game one dummy vote, say 5 (or even lower, 3 out of 10, perhaps) and then take the average of all votes. A low dummy vote penalises games no one wanted to play, and encourages people to play the game, espec...

Re: Quick Status Menu: Update after items/magic menu

The simplest thing to do is to create two plotscripts to wrap the Items and Spells menus which first calls the itemsmenu or spellsmenu command, then destroys and recreates the quick status menu. Replace the Items and Spells menu items with calls to those scripts. Actually, even simpler would be to j...

Yes, that "wait for all" would have caused that gitch. Also in this case the "while(key is pressed...) do (wait(1))" loop should be unnecessary because of the openmenu. Incidentally, if you noticed a problem where alt causes a problem but esc doesn't then you've encountered a dif...

What do you mean by "the other reviews"? Adding a link to a review if someone emails to ask for it?

EDIT: I suggest writing "Reviews of incomplete games" rather than "Incomplete Reviews", which confused me.

Yes, generally best to parent everything to a dedicated container slice which is itself parented to map layer 0 so that your scripts don't go haywire if you add any other slices. "put slice (sl, camera pixel x, camera pixel y)" isn't right; this will place the slice at the top left corner ...

All the output in g_debug.txt is irrelevant.

I definitely insist on fixing this SDL_mixer bug before the next release.

I like the site redesign!

Do you have any plans to ever host reviews by other people?

I don't remember if you had mentioned this update to the voting system last time, but it makes a lot of sense now. Heart of the OHR works on a 1-10 scale, so 5 would have to be the average. I think I was against the idea of including middling averages last time, but I do see the merit of including ...

IIRC Hawk had the same problem; also Ichiro has reported this before. I couldn't work out what the problem was, and concluded that the best thing to do would be to log timing info of various DirectX functions that gfx_directx calls and other debug info to try to narrow it down. Haven't touched gfx_d...

That seems like a good idea; I would agree that the wiki is the best place for linking to articles and archiving contests and so on. But is it the best place to put up pages for thousands of games and authors? Certainly everyone is welcome to create pages on the wiki for their pages and themselves (...

I prefer the first because it has fewer patches (which are too... formless and strange), but I agree that that crimson cape looks far better than a flesh-coloured one.

Is that actually a cape? The folds on it seem to totally contradict the way that a cape would hang. Maybe it's a flying-fox-man.
