Are you considering a side-on view without jumping? What about ladders? It's a side-on view without much vertical movement that reduces movement from 2D to 1D and really reduces "spatial feel". Of course, there are also many other projections similar to 3/4 but at different angles and slan...

Day 19: Lua is a weird language in that there are so many alternative ways to accomplish anything. Spent some time changing the structure of the code a little to decrease verbosity, and rewrote the text markup-parsing, while deveah wrote a nice map generator in next to no time and started on items....

Oh no, looks like I held this up afterall, terribly sorry about that. I very nearly submitted a five-way tie for first place as my vote. I can't remember a contest in OHR history that resulted in such a consistently high quality of submissions! I honestly think not one of these games is clearly out-...

(The 'quote' button in the thread is the easiest way to go) Ah, so you did dog-food when designing the levels. That wouldn't be the worst way to create them. You should also try to make levels distinctive and interesting. E.g. puzzle games typically either have a gimmick per level, or only use certa...

I think that having extra levels of inheritance is a more harmless example of overengineered code. Try not to add levels of abstraction or indirection before you actually find that they will help you. And don't waste too much time thinking about things like this, it's crippling!

I preferred to give you the $3.05*0.7. I tried installing steam in a Ubuntu 15.04 64 bit VM to see whether Ruin would work on a stock system, but steam won't run either with or without a hardware-accelerated emulated graphics card. So I really can't say one way or the other (Ruin works fine for me u...

You should put that on the wiki as an example of balancing.
Or just link to it.

Ah, that's right. I completed Paladin Traducer. Did eaagvark really take just two hours to do that? It took me much longer, though I'm not sure how long, because I walked away a few times. And I really started getting impatient on the last level, when I realised the exponential increasing goalpost w...

Oh, great to hear you're still consistently working on it, it really deserves to be finished. The distribute game option has never worked for me, at least with windows. It can't get the .exe properly, and says I need Windows or Wine. I have Wine, but it decided one day to stop doing things and so I ...

Well, congrats! I see that there are a lot of positive comments on your greenlight, looks like you did some pretty effective targeted marketing to exclude all the downers. I guess it makes perfect business sense to take the game offline if it will be on steam, but it does seem strange to be voting t...

These aren't my votes, I'm just posting mini-reviews. Hollowkeep This is a really fantastic start to a game! Love the graphics and humour and point-and-click system. I wish that the end of the demo had more clearly been marked, though. I only realised that I had missed something when I read what BVG...

Let's be honest. Day 15: Went for a long walk to the beach and the organic butcher. Read many newspapers. Played and provided feedback on a Dragon Warrior fangame. Day 16: Brushed up on my Lua and spent a while getting to gripes with the existing codebase, then implemented a simple message log as wa...

Whoops! I'll set time aside to play these games and vote today. But it seems unreasonable to wait yet another week before tallying votes because of my vote.

Ah, good to hear. Did you include accented letters for pinyin?

I never thought that the intention of those 160 characters was to allow people to spell their names out, I figured it was for picking silly aliases from, such as "horse-table"
