Well, if nothing else, doing a clean, careful resize in MS Paint usually works. So, your game is a multiverse, not just a universe? Does it involve intergalactic and/or time travel? I agree with BMR on all those things. But Phoenix's Phoenix is comprised of the 8-bit 4-color palette, so it would actually fit in one of the first 3 Final Fantasies pretty well. I like it! It looks more like a ribbon-bird than a fire-bird to me, so its design could use a bit more fiery details. Maybe you could just surround it in fire. Of course, if it's actively flinging fireballs and inferno flames at me every second in battle, I'll get the message even without the extras...
